"Today ACCENT organizes child care for about 150 events a year. Entertainment may include relay races and crafts, field trips to Orlando's Gatorland or Chicago's Museum of Science an Industry, or a visit by Deputy Dawg. Security is a major selling point. ACCENT photographs parent and child when the child is dropped off, and allows only the adult in the photo to pick up the child."

"The number of people bringing kids along on business trips has been exploding, as parents try to save money and spend more time with kids. This year alone, 41 million business trips will include children, a 55% person jump from 1990. In New Orleans, Diane Lyons, a convention official, has started an on-site child care company for conventioneers, called ACCENT on Children's Arrangements. When recently handling a world wide convention, she organized Cajun dance classes, alligator handlers and crawfish races for 400 children."

"Five years and 8,000 to 10,000 kids later, ACCENT Child Care is a service that attendees expect to find at annual meetings. Demand for business travelers is growing. ACCENT handles child care for 35 conventions a year and about as many special events such as company picnics, corporate Christmas parties and 'play care' for accounting firms during tax season."

"In 1994, 43.4 million, or 15%, of all business trips included a child, a 63% increase from 1990. The average business traveler is 41, a professional, married, and a parent. Some astute entrepreneurs are cashing in, too. Diane Lyons left a 20-year career in the convention industry to start ACCENT on Children's Arrangements five years ago. Her New Orleans company provides on site child care youth tours at conventions for groups as diverse as McDonald's Franchisees, Piggly Wiggly grocery store owners, and American College of Surgeons."

"ACCENT on Children's Arrangements was started in 1990 with one employee and one promise: childcare meeting or exceeding the most stringent standards around. Her Motto: "Have toys, will travel." With satellite offices in Chicago, San Francisco, and Orlando, Fla., Lyons now has 10 full time employees and nearly 400 part time workers around the country."
